Elaine Books

Project overview

Elaine Books publishes educational books for Arabic-speaking students, supported by an interactive digital library. The project combines print and digital product design, full-stack development, media production, and publishing operations.

Scope includes book layout refinement, educational content design, more than 100 print-ready maps, audiobook production, student learning tools, real-time content management, school outreach, and customer support through the public rollout.

Book design and editorial production

  • Graphic design: Took over the book layouts following the initial design by a hired designer, completing extensive corrections and refinements.
  • Cover direction: Provided design direction for book covers and visual consistency across the publications.
  • Content design: Contributed to activities and the educational approach within the books.
  • Editorial preparation: Proofread content and standardized Word documents, styles, and heading hierarchy for production.

Maps, media, and audio

  • Cartography: Created and prepared more than 100 maps for print across the books.
  • Media research: Researched and sourced images, paintings, and photographs for the publications.
  • Audiobook production: Managed recording, editing, and publishing, alongside development of the platform's audio playback interfaces.

Digital learning platform

Library and reading experience

Designed and developed a book-centered digital library with activation, persistent access, and distinct visual themes for each publication. The responsive website and PWA support desktop and phone use, with Arabic and Hebrew right-to-left layouts and an English interface.

Interactive learning

  • Assessment: Developed questions, tests, timed questions, and timed quizzes with their interaction and feedback logic.
  • Practice activities: Built drag-and-drop, ordering, matching, line-matching, and fill-in-the-blank exercises.
  • Exploration and media: Developed interactive maps, history timelines, text and image activities, video content, and PDF slideshows with book-specific visual themes.
  • Activity navigation: Built dashboards that organize related learning materials and activities into a single entry point.
  • Reading and listening: Integrated digital page-flipping, audio playback, and access to teacher guides.
  • Accessibility and reliability: Refined typography, touch controls, small-screen layouts, and cross-browser behavior.

Content management and platform operations

  • Backend and CMS: Developed workflows for content delivery, activation keys, print batches, and publishing support.
  • Real-time updates: Enabled quick fixes, content updates, and support changes through the CMS, keeping the published learning experience current.
  • Access management: Implemented key lookup, activation history, and controlled book release and device-transfer workflows.
  • Reporting: Built reporting for daily activations and current book access.
  • Ongoing maintenance: Addressed support feedback, audio behavior, responsive layouts, and platform reliability.

Public rollout and customer support

  • Customer support: Handled customer enquiries and issues throughout the public rollout, helping users access and use the digital books.
  • Issue resolution: Supported activation and access troubleshooting, coordinated fixes, and followed up on reported problems.
  • Feedback and updates: Connected support requests with CMS updates and platform improvements, maintaining records so issues and follow-up actions remained traceable.

Publishing coordination

  • Production communication: Coordinated with the print house, designers, and other collaborators on updates and delivery requirements.
  • Traceable records: Maintained logs of changes, decisions, and follow-up items throughout production.
  • Ministry review: Supported preparation and coordination for the Ministry of Education approval process.

Marketing and school outreach
